R. James Balls is an Associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. He represents clients in a variety of areas including counseling, opinions, due diligence, litigation, and patent procurement in chemical matters.

Before attending law school, James worked as a chemist in both Japan and the United States. He later became a patent examiner at the United States Patent & Trademark Office, where he examined applications drawn to heterocyclic compounds, pharmaceuticals, polymorphs and prodrugs.
