Paul E. Crawford is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. He is a member of the firm's Associate Evaluation Committee.

He represents clients in a variety of intellectual property areas including due diligence, client counseling, licensing, patent interferences, litigation, prosecution, unfair competition and trade secret law.

He has litigated and arbitrated (ICC and AAA) disputes ranging from protection of trade dress on packaging of consumer paper products to obtaining injunctive relief against misappropriators of complex chemical formulas for high performance automotive paint pigments. Miles Inc. v. Cookson America Inc., et al., 677 A.2d 507 (Del. Ch. 1995). Other litigated disputes involved patents covering telecommunications, computer networking technologies, roller bearings and waste remediation processes.

Between and during these contests, Paul counsels clients on a variety of intellectual property issues including licensing, right to use, as well as trademark and copyright matters. He also acts as local counsel for numerous companies litigating in the District of Delaware.

Paul is a member of the firm's Asian Pacific Practice. In this capacity, he has most recently served as a keynote speaker in China where he advised Chinese IP judges on all aspects of IP law.

Prior to joining the firm, Paul was a Patent Examiner. His mechanical engineering background has been put to good use in numerous courts around the country and as the Governor's appointee to the Council of the Delaware Association of Professional Engineers (1990-1998, 2003-2007).

He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America as a recommended intellectual property law practitioner in Delaware and prides himself in providing good common sense advice that carefully balances the risk/benefit equation underlying litigation.

He has put his extensive litigation experience to use as a coordinator of prisoner rights litigation for the District of Delaware Federal Civil Panel. He was appointed to this post by the Delaware District Court and later received the Delaware District Court's Caleb R. Layton, III Award. This annual award is given to persons who personify the qualities of a Federal Practitioner, Legal Acumen, Professional Decorum and Public Service. The District Court also appointed him to the Third Circuit Lawyers Advisory Committee (2003-2005).

The American Arbitration Association has recently accepted Mr. Crawford as a neutral (arbitrator, mediator) on its Commercial Panel. As a Panel member, he will be available to assist in the resolution of commercial disputes, particularly those dealing with intellectual property issues.
