A Tribute to our Founders

Arthur G. Connolly Sr.

Arthur Connolly-intellectual property litigator for Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz

Arthur G. Connolly Sr., the named founder of the firm, was one of the first Delaware members of the American College of Trial lawyers. His approach to law was efficient, straightforward, and succinct, believing that every case has a few key documents and a few key witnesses. His legendary approach in court proceedings, depositions, negotiations, and cross-examinations earned him the reputation as one of the top intellectual property litigators in the country. Mr. Connolly was with the firm from the time he founded it in 1944 until his retirement because of failing health when he was over 90 years old.

Born in Boston, MA, Mr. Connolly worked his way through college serving as a Lieutenant in the Army Reserves. He went on to graduate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1927 and Harvard Law School in 1930 during the depths of the economic depression. After working for the Universal Oil Company in Chicago and the Patent Department of the Dupont Company, he started a small patent practice and then formed a partnership with Werner H. Hutz. Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz LLP has since grown to a multi-discipline practice with over 100 attorneys and three offices. Mr. Connolly was an active participant in charitable causes, founding the Arguild Foundation and serving as President of the Laffey-McHugh Foundation. On March 21, 2004 Mr. Connolly died in his home in Wilmington, Delaware at the age of 98.
